TENSION HOMEWORK – HARRY MORGAN 9G
How does the writer
structure the text to vary the tension for the reader?
Answer: the writer uses strongly worded feelings such as “I wanted
it with all my heart for it to be over” this makes the reader feel sorrow and
concern for Joe Simpson he also describes that what he was going through was “torture”. He must have been terrified, exhausted and
frightened for his life.
The fears and thoughts
which he shares with the reader
He does this by describing the feelings he had whilst
hanging on a rope with a fifty foot drop below him, he was almost waiting
simply to land on it and die! He reached
a point whereby he was so numb and cold that death would have freed him from
his nightmare. This makes the reader
think that the experience was so bad he would have preferred to die than to
carry on.
The way the passage
ends
He describes that what he wanted to happen actually
happened. The reader is left wondering
at the end of the story whether or not he survived the incident and was saved or
whether he died when the rope lashed violently against his face and he fell
silently. Again, this makes the reader
curious as to what happens to poor Joe Simpson!
